About Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 276

Local 276 represents journeypersons and apprentices working in the Sheet Metal, Architectural Sheet Metal, Flat Roofing, and Slope Roofing Trades. 

Sheet Metal and Flat Roofing are both Red Seal Trades which are recognized Canadian Certifications and Architectural Sheet Metal and Sloped Roofing are B.C. only Certifications. As these trades have their own unique set of skill sets, they each require a combination of practical on-the-job training and specialized technical training to complete prior to a final examination and certification is granted.

About the Opportunity

Due to continuous demand in construction, Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 276 is currently looking for Journeypersons/Red Seal Sheet Metal Workers to join our union in various locations around Vancouver Island. This is a permanent position with a minimum of 5 years' work in our pipeline!

As a Journeyperson/Red Seal Sheet Metal Worker, you will work on a range of mid to large projects available in various locations across Vancouver Island. 

As our ideal candidate for this role, you are a motivated individual with a passion for the work that you do, and an eagerness to build a career within our industry. Your enthusiasm will combine with your technical knowledge to ensure your success as you work towards competing demands and deadlines. Above all, you'll be team-oriented and possess the physical fitness required in order to perform the demands of the role.  

Your day-to-day duties could include:

• Laying out, measuring, and marking sheet metal according to drawings or templates
• Operating hand and power tools and equipment 
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and work specifications 
• Grinding and buffing seams, joints, and rough surfaces
• Fitting and join sheet metal parts using riveting, welding, soldering, and similar equipment 
• Ensuring workplace safety and using special personal protective equipment 
• Sorting materials and maintaining a clean worksite
• Coaching and mentoring apprentices as they learn the skills of the trade

About You

To qualify for the role of Journeyperson/Red Seal Sheet Metal Worker, you will have a minimum 4 years of experience working in the field. The ideal candidates will have completed a Sheet Metal Certificate of Qualification and/or Red Seal endorsement. You must also possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Moreover, we require the successful candidates to have working knowledge in at least one of the following:

• Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning - HVAC
• Blow Pipe
• Architectural Sheet Metal
• Marine Sector
• Flat Roofing
• Sloped Roofing
• Custom Sheet Metal

You will be successful in this role if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to multitask and prioritize competing tasks, and have a safety-first mindset at all times. Lastly, you love being outdoors, and are able and willing to work in all weather conditions at ground level and at heights.
